The Women’s Situation Room Nigeria, WSRN has stressed the need for a peaceful election especially against the backdrop of the state of the nation in the area of security and high inflation rate as well as the current cash scarcity.
The National Coordinator, WSRN, Professor Joy Onyesoh made the call during a courtesy call on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and traditional rulers in Cross Rivers state as part of a peace tour across the six geopolitical zones of the country.
In a meeting with Professor Gabriel Yomere, who is the Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC in Cross River State; Professor Onyesoh explained that the Women’s Situation Room Nigeria has a target of increasing women’s political participation by monitoring the electoral processes.
Responding, the REC, Cross River State, Professor Gabriel Yomere, pledged to work with the Women’s Situation Room Nigeria to drive the women components of the 2023 general election.
The founder of Women’s Situation Room Nigeria, Professor Joy Onyesoh also embarked on an advocacy visit to female traditional rulers from Adiabo, Efak Abasi Oku and Ikot Okon Abasi Greek Town communities in Cross Rivers State.
During the visits, Professor Onyesoh sensitised the women on the dangers of electoral violence and said she had put measures in place to carryout online verification for everyone having challenges on how to contact the Voter Education officer of INEC in Cross River State to address the challenges.
