WSRN Hosts Training for Media Practitioners in Ebonyi State

Women’s Situation Room Nigeria (WSRN) has organized a one-day capacity building training for media practitioners in Ebonyi State, Nigeria.
The training which took place in Abakaliki, the State capital on Wednesday 14/02/2023 had practitioners from different media organizations in attendance.
The Ebonyi State Coordinator of WSRN, Mrs. Lorreith Nwafor said in her remarks that the Media is a key stakeholder in the upcoming election which is why the training became necessary so that media practitioners could help change and shape the narrative before, during and after the elections.
The State Coordinator of Women’s Situation Room Nigeria emphasized that WSRN is a women civil society led initiative that seeks to increase women’s substantive participation in political process and conflict prevention in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325.
WSRN is a Civil Society Organization with the aims of promoting peace and freedom of the female gender in politics and monitoring electoral violence especially violence against women in politics.
The goal of the WSRN is to ensure that all elections in Nigeria are peaceful and women and youth play a substantive role in sustaining and building peaceful communities, state and nation,” she said.
Nwafor highlighted the objectives of the training to include, “Promoting best practices for responsible, ethical and safe representation and reporting of violence against women (VAW) by media practitioners.“
Build capacities in ethical considerations for engaging with survivors of violence and key points for reporting on violence and creating awareness around violence against women.
“Strengthen the awareness and understanding of the media on gender equality issues, SGBV and VAWIP.
