The advocacy visit to the Swedish embassy took place on the 29th of November, 2017. It has in attendance three members from WILPF Staff, two members for WILPF Sweden, two members from Forum Syd and two members from the Swedish Embassy. The meeting started with the president of WILPF Nigeria giving a background of the activities of WILPF in Nigeria. She stated that WILPF Nigeria began receiving funds from Sweden in 2010. She mentioned that the organization is focused on UNSCR 1325 and CEDAW and as a presence in the 6 geo-political zones of Nigeria. She also stated that as at 2017, about 1150 women have been trained so far across 6 states. She mentioned Sweden as one of the largest donors to humanitarian and works in the IDP camps. The embassy also stated their activities at the IDP camps in Borno state. The President went ahead to mention the structure of WILPF Nigeria and the other agencies and organizations who are WILPF Nigeria’s donors. The members of the meeting also shared thoughts on the need to start early in getting more women to participate in electoral process. The Swedish embassy mentioned a meeting with the Enugu Government which will also be used as a medium to push for the State Action Plan in the state. The Swedish embassy representative gave the actives of the embassy in Nigeria as they are a staff of 16 people with 5 diplomats. Some of their activities include: enhance trade relation in the Nigeria, entrepreneurship and migration. They also stated their activities with some universities in Nigeria and schools to talk on Children’s’ right in collaboration with UNICEF.
