WILPF NIGERIA BRIEFING AT THE CONVENTION OF THE ELIMINATION OF ALL FORMS OF DISCRIMINATION AGAINST WOMEN (CEDAW), GENEVA.
The pre-sessional working group on the Convention of the Elimination of all forms Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) held a meeting at the UN Palaise De Nations, Geneva on the 21st November, 2016 to discuss issues on Nigeria’s review scheduled to hold in the July 2017. During the briefing, questions asked on the elimination of discrimination against women were: legal debate on the VAPP? The Relationship between federal and state level when it comes to the domestication of a Bill/Act, also, if there is a national plan on advancement of women, from a legal framework is there need for new laws, and child marriage in Nigeria? Recommendations were also given on the issues that were raised by WILPF Nigeria to the committee.
